Farming on Facebook

with 3 comments

If you are a member of Facebook, you may be aware that there are “Applications” available for Facebookers to use. They come in all forms: Quizzes, games, widgets for your profile, etc.

There is one application in particular that my mother, a new Facebook user, has become addicted to. It is called “Farm Town” – the premise is simple, you have to take care of a virtual farm. You buy seeds, grow crops, and sell them for coins that you use to buy more seeds, rinse, repeat. The better you are, the higher you climb on the Farm Town levels.

You can also earn trophies for different things, like being a big spender, or if you visit your friends’ farms often. There’s also a trophy for being popular….the more “neighbors” you have (neighbors are Facebook friends that also have farms), the more popular you are.

My mother is not quite able to get the Popular Farmer trophy. Although she was able to talk me into starting a farm, she just doesn’t have quite enough Facebook friends interested in being virtual farmers (imagine that…I wonder why), and was complaining about it this past weekend. So I *jokingly* suggested that she open an account for Tinker – her dog – and set up a farm for Tinker so that she could have one more neighbor in Farm Town. I was completely joking.

Well, she did it.

My mother’s DOG now has a Facebook page.

Now, if you will excuse me, I must go tend to my farm now…my tomatoes are almost ready.

Joined a gang

without comments

photo1I joined a gang this past weekend. Don’t worry, it’s the non-violent kind. We mostly eat.

Last fall my stepdad and brother bought motorcycles. And a few weeks ago my mom bought herself a motorcycle. My MOM! And Jody already had one (or three, actually) so that leaves me as the only one who doesn’t have one. But they let me in their bike gang anyway. Wasn’t that nice?

So we’ve been planning to go riding for a few weeks now, and we finally had the opportunity to do it this past weekend. There is a restaurant a few miles from my mom’s house that serves as the local hangout for the bikers, so of course that’s where we headed. We have to hang out with our own kind, you know.

The dress code for bikers is pretty simple: black leather.

If you don’t have any leather, something black will do.

photo2Here’s us on her bike, ready to go.

I rode with my mom instead of Jody because she has an extra seat on the back. And it’s a good thing I did because halfway to the restaurant Jody decided he had a need… a need for speed… and he passed us all and sped down the road.

And completely unrelated, but here’s a picture I took of Lilly and Jody in front of one of Jody’s trucks:

Alright, back to work for me…

p.s. I really hate WordPress and the lack of control they allow me to have over the code to my posts. If this post looks all funky and misaligned, it’s because I gave up and stopped trying to fix it.

Lilly's new sweaterWould you like to hear about Lilly’s bowel movements?

Would you?

I have received two phone calls today about it. And I find that really amusing :P

Lilly went to the vet Wednesday because of her tummy issues, and once she had the medicine in her system, she just stopped pooping. Which is normal according to the vet. But she didn’t…eh, *go* at all on Thursday either.  Again, normal, but both the vet and Jody’s mom have called today for an update (Jody’s parents left Thursday to go to the cabin).

And just so you know, she *went* this morning. Everyone rejoiced! It was an exciting moment, I should have grabbed my camera! Dang it!

But seriously, she’s getting better. She has three medications that she has to take, 2 of them twice a day. One is a powder that we mix in with some soft dog food and she will eat that wihout any problems. One is a liquid that I have to squirt in her mouth, and she hates it! And the third is a pill that I have to hide in a dog treat before she will eat it. But she only has to take it for a few more days.

Poor Lilly

with 3 comments

I’m worried about my little puppy dog.

Saturday night I had some friends over, and Lilly seemed really clingy and wanted to be in my lap the entire time, which is a little unusual. I just brushed it off as nervousness since there were people around that she did not know very well. And she wanted to go outside constantly, also unusual.

After everyone left and I had cleaned up, Lilly and I climbed into bed to go to sleep. About 20 minutes later, she got sick – it was coming out both ends. And I just brushed that off too because she eats something every once in a while that doesn’t agree with her, and gets diarrhea. It’s not uncommon.

Sunday, she was fine. Still had a little bit of diarrhea, but she was playful and her normal self. Although I don’t remember her eating much.

Monday, she goes to her DMama’s house as usual. DMama gave her a treat which she promptly threw up. She didn’t each much of her dog food, and the diarrhea continued.

DMama had already planned to have the vet over to her house Tuesday night to clip her cats’ nails (we have the best vet ever!), so we decided that Lilly would stay over at DMama’s Tuesday night so that the vet could look at her.

And right now Lilly is on her way to the vet’s office for a full exam to hopefully find out what is wrong. Jody’s mom said Lilly was up almost all night, constantly going outside but not doing anything. She’s has been whining. Not eating much. I’m worried about her. I hope it’s nothing serious.

UPDATE: Lilly has colitis, which is an inflamed colon. She has some doggy medicine and some soft dog food from the vet that should help clear it up in a couple of days. Whew! (wipes forehead) I was worried about my little baby, but it sounds like she is going to be OK.

I’m Sorry

with one comment

I’m sorry I’m so inconsistent with this blog. I seem to go through short periods where I don’t post anything. I just don’t have anything to say. Plus I’ve been busy with other stuff. You know, for someone who has very little work to do, I am somehow extremely busy during the day.

I have a little more than 24 hours to get my house clean for tomorrow night’s game night. I think I can do it. I’m not going to lie, that’s the main reason I’m having people over to my house….I needed motivation to clean. There has been a huge pile of clothes on my couch for the past couple of months, and I am happy to report that all of those clothes are now hanging in my closet or are crammed into drawers. Lilly is a little upset that she can no longer lay on the clothes, but she’ll get over it. Plus, I’m sure the pile will return next week. It always does.

Another reason I’m having people over: I really want some peach cobbler. I’m making some tomorrow and it is going to be sooo goooood! With Vanilla ice cream on top… :)

And just because I have nothing else to write, I will leave you with a picture from the Easter egg hunt I attended with CJ and her nephews:

More Randomness

without comments

This is will another one of my posts filled with random stuff…

  • One of Jody’s friends held a yard sale at his deceased father’s home, and brought Jody inside the house to show him his father’s prized possession: his refrigerator
But it’s just just any refrigerator. It is from 1962 and it still works! Oh, and it’s mounted on the wall. The WALL! I wish I could have seen it. I found this old ad online that shows what the wall mounted fridges look like:

    wall-refrigerator
You cannot imagine how much I want this! How cool would that be to have a wall mounted fridge? Especially in the old house we are restoring. I don’t think his friend is willing to sell the one his father had. Jody doesn’t want one, but I don’t care – I’m on a mission to find one. I WILL own one of these.

  • Since I bought my house 2.5 years ago, the house on the left side of me has always been empty. The real estate company that sells homes in the neighborhood used it as their office, but put it up for sale a few months ago. The For Sale sign is still up, but there appears to be people living there – they just moved in this past week. So I have no idea what is going on. And it’s not like they just forgot to pull up the For Sale sign, I have seen them outside unpacking their vehicles and walk around the sign. You would think if the house was sold, they would take the sign down. So I think I have new neighbors…?
  • Today is my last day of work this week! I seriously love working for a small company, the boss is taking a vacation so I get time off from work too! No one will be here to let me in the office, so I can’t get in my office to do anything. Sweet. And they won’t be back until about noon on Monday so I get half of Monday off too. :)
  • Message to Heather! Game Night. Saturday April 18th. 6pm. My house. Be there or be square.

Forgotten Cup o’ Jo(dy)

with 2 comments

I completely forgot to post this for you guys yesterday! I dug the cup out the trash this morning to take a picture of it…

photo

It was extremely rainy yesterday… there was so much rain yesterday that many schools in the area are closed today because of flooding. Except for the one CJ works at ::points at CJ and laughs::

The little stick guy on the cup is Jody, who is happy to be standing out in the storm because as you can see next to his feet, rain makes the grass grow. And when the grass grows, people drag their lawn mowers out and the more a mower is used, the more likely it is that it will need repairs, or new blades, etc – services that Jody’s business provides. He was already pretty busy this morning when I stopped by.
